The American Peanut Council is the industry trade association that serves the four segments of the peanut industry: growers; manufacturers; shellers; and allied/broker/international companies.  We work on promoting U.S. peanut and peanut products around the world; we assist the industry during times of crisis communications; and  monitor regulations and trade trends to keep the U.S. industry informed.  In addition, our Peanut Foundation conducts extensive research to improve the efficiencies of peanut farming and processing.

Peanuts are not only great tasting, but also very nutritious. The new 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines now say to eat more plant-based protein, such as peanuts and peanut butter.  Peanuts have more protein than any other nut (7-8 grams of protein per one ounce serving). Aside from being a great protein source, peanuts also provide dietary fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin E, thiamin, resveratrol and magnesium.

Peanuts are a versatile source of nutrition and considerable research is underway to provide more information on the role peanuts can play in a healthy diet.
