- Improve quality
- Educate the industry and consumers on the benefits of this research
Such research will strive to satisfy the demands of consumers while enhancing the commercial viability of the peanut industry.

| PEANUT GENOME INITIATIVE |
|
The Peanut Foundation directs and supports research in peanuts on behalf of all segments of the peanut industry. It’s newest project is the Peanut Genome Initiative.
The Peanut Genome Initiative is a committed step by the international research community to meet the needs of the peanut industry through genomics and biotechnology.
The Peanut Genome Initiative has three primary goals:
Develop improved transformation systems and GMO peanuts
Develop molecular markers for resistant genes to the primary peanut disease and quality attributes
Create a mutated peanut collection using chemical knockouts to eliminate unwanted traits

| PEANUT RESEARCH AND EDUCATION AWARD (PREA) |
This award is traditionally given to individuals or groups of individuals who have made significant contributions in the fields of research or education. Nominations should identify and describe the specific research project or educational activity for which the candidate is being considered. In addition to biographical information, the nomination should include an evaluation of the quality and/or effectiveness of the project/activity.
Nominations are reviewed by the Technical Review Committee of The Peanut Foundation and the award is presented at the USA Peanut Congress in June. Winner(s) receive an expense-paid trip to the Peanut Congress, a plaque and an honorarium of $1,000. The call for nominations is done each year in January.
