The APC Winter Conference took place in Washington, DC last week with the highest attendance on record. Board and committee meetings were held and the Peanut Foundation 2013 project reviews were conducted. The highlight of the meeting was the General Session which was held in the U.S. Capitol this year. This session focused on the opportunities in international trade.

After a warm welcome and update on the farm bill by Representative Austin Scott of Georgia, we heard from a variety of speakers on various aspects of international trade including emerging market opportunities and updates on international trade agreements. Ms. Sharon Bomer Lauritsen, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Agricultural Affairs and Commodity Policy, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, who had just arrived back from Singapore provided an update TPP and Doha Round WTO negotiations.

And, Dr. Gideon Lack of King’s College in London provided an update on his groundbreaking peanut allergy research.
